I was captivated by jewellery from an early age when I discovered various beadshops in London. I would lose myself delving through wooden trays filled with modern and antique beads from around the globe. I was enthralled at the displays of ancient offerings at museums and I would awe at the jewellery collection at the Victoria and Albert. Studying anthropology as a degree has deepened my curiosity about jewellery and how we forge relationships with these objects. It excites me that adornment is entangled with our entire existence. Evidence of natural objects transformed into beads are found alongside the earliest remains of modern humans and marks beads as one of the earliest forms of symbolic art. I love that we are still using this earliest form of adornment: the bead.
I create structural, abstract shapes and forms from precious metals, including tube for drama and substance. Weaving the tiniest of contemporary Japanese glass beads as though building blocks, providing colour and pattern inviting imagination and playfulness, I create beaded beads, links or embellishments. These tiny glass beads are a recent evolution of the seed bead (glass making techniques date back over 3000 years). This technical innovation allows for a high degree of uniformity which makes them perfect for intricate and precise bead-weaving designs.
I'm based in London where I have a studio. I'm inspired by human creativity; the wonders we're capable of by applying imagination, time and skill. Jewellery offers us infinite possibilities for our imaginations. I strive to skilfully create pieces that ignite fantastical relationships and joy.
